The CGR Story

Common Good Radio began in 2008 as a response to a growing awareness: children were being shaped—spiritually, emotionally, and imaginatively—by media environments that were louder, faster, and more formative than many adults realized.

Common Good Radio began in 2008 as a response to a growing pastoral concern: children were being shaped—spiritually, emotionally, and imaginatively—by media environments that were louder, faster, and more formative than many adults realized.

What began as a small effort to create faithful, thoughtful children’s audio content grew out of a deep commitment to the spiritual lives of children and families. In a culture increasingly defined by screens and constant messaging, there was a need for something different—something slower, more attentive, hopeful, and grounded in faith through music, stories, and blessings.

Through internet radio platforms and a 24/7 streaming presence, Common Good Radio reached listeners in over 80 countries. We give thanks to God for the gift of this technology and the ways it has been used to share messages of love and hope.

As technology has continued to evolve, so too have listening habits and expectations. On-demand content has become the primary way people engage with media, opening new opportunities to meet listeners where they are.

From its earliest days, Common Good Radio has been guided by a simple but profound conviction: love begins with listening.  This conviction led to the development of a listening ministry rooted in the spiritual discipline of listening—listening to God, to one another, and to the stories shaping our lives.

Over time, the ministry has expanded beyond radio to include podcasts, speaking, teaching, and the Digital Discipleship Matters framework, equipping churches, educators, and families to nurture the spiritual well-being of children growing up in digital culture.

Today, Common Good Radio continues as a network of resources and relationships dedicated to the spiritual care of children and their adults through Sound, Word, and Formation, inviting all who have ears to listen (Mark 4:23).

Rev. Dr. Robin Blair, founder, gives thanks for the guidance of an advisory community of parents, educators, and creatives, and for the many faith communities who have nurtured and supported the mission of Common Good Radio over the years.
